Weed and Seed/AmeriCorps*VISTA Reentry Initiative
The Community Capacity Development Office (CCDO) and Corporation for National and Community Safety (CNCS) partnered together from 2004-2006 for the purpose of developing and implementing an AmeriCorps*VISTA, prisoner reentry initiative. The Weed and Seed/AmeriCorps*VISTA Reentry Initiative leveraged AmeriCorps*VISTA members working with Weed and Seed sites to build the capacity of organizations, create volunteer hubs in partnership with participating cities and faith-based and community groups, and mobilize volunteer support for the reentry initiatives. The Center for Community Safety (CCS) and the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) served as the training and technical assistance providers for the Initiative. In addition, the Urban Institute partnered with CCS to provide addition technical assistance support.
Operation Strengthen
The Center for Community Safety (CCS) awarded twenty grants to faith-based and community-based organizations through Operation Strengthen, a project funded by a $548,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Compassion Capital Fund. Additionally, through a collaborative effort between Neighbors for Better Neighborhoods (NBN), CCS, and Wake Forest University School (WFU) School of Public Health Sciences, Operation Strengthen provided capacity-building services to organizations that served at-risk youth in Forsyth County, NC.
