Data Research & Analytics Manager
Dr. Pedro Hernandez is the Data Research & Analytics Manager at The Center for Community Safety (CCS) at Winston-Salem State University and an expert in child and family welfare. He leads CCS efforts in the use of advanced statistical analysis and data mining techniques to execute meaningful research and create insightful, actionable analysis of public safety and other data-driven community problems. Dr. Hernandez is also responsible for the day-to-day operations of and the various technological tools within the “Community Research & Action” Classroom at CCS. This state-of-the-art learning environment is a practical technological resource facility to explore innovative uses of data analytic techniques and GIS-based technology and spatial analysis to help inform and spark community problem solving.
Dr. Hernandez's research interests focus on the experiences and outcomes of families involved with the child welfare system and other social service institutions/organizations (such as, the Juvenile Justice System, Non-profit and Faith-Based organizations). His research also includes empirical evaluation of crisis nursery services and volunteer prison reentry services for mothers. He earned an MSW and a PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
